Tour Itinerary

Coptic Cairo Day Tour from Alexandria Port

Our tour guide will pick you up from Alexandria Port in a private, air-conditioned car to start your wonderful tour.

Salah El-Din Citadel:

For more than 700 years, the Salah El-Din Citadel and the Alabaster Mosque of Mohammed Ali, which was built by the Turkish architect Yousif Boushnaq, were the most important places in Egypt.

Hanging Church:

The most well-known building in the Coptic Quarter is the Hanging Church. It is called the “Hanging Church” because it was built on one of the Roman castle’s doors, and its wooden dome looks like Noah’s Ark from the Old Testament.

Abu Serja Church:

It is Egypt’s oldest church. It was built in the 5th century on top of the cave where the Holy Family is thought to have stayed for a few days. It is named after Saints Sergius and Bacchus, whose bodies are buried there.

St. Barbara’s Church:

It was first built as a church for Saint Cyrus and Saint John, so it has a lot of historical value. From the 13th century on, it was named after Saint Barbara because her body was buried there. It has some of the oldest and most valuable pieces of Coptic art.

Ben Ezra Synagogue:

It used to be a church, but in the ninth century, Abraham Ben Ezra bought it and gave it his name. He did this to get the money he needed to pay the high taxes that the Roman government required.

Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque:

The oldest mosque on the African continent is the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque. It began in 642, when Cairo took over Fustat, the new capital of Egypt.

lunch:

We’ll stop for a break and use the time to eat and rest. Egyptian food will be served at a restaurant for lunch (drinks not included).

Khan El Khalili Bazaar:

See the beautiful Khan El Khalili, Cairo’s famous main market, after you’ve been to the Egyptian Museum. It is the center of the Egyptian capital and is always full of tourists and Egyptians. You can let loose in the different markets, where you can find anything and buy some great handicrafts made by locals.

Then, we’ll take you back to the port of Alexandria.
