The Jaz Regent, sometimes known as the Jaz Elite Regent or MS Jaz Regent, is a five-star luxury Nile cruise ship that travels between Luxor and Aswan. It is part of our Luxury Nile Cruises collection and a great choice for first-time visitors seeking a full-size, hotel-style ship with a pool. Our private 4-day and 5-day programs cover every temple entrance, include an Egyptologist guide, air-conditioned transfers, and full board, starting at $1,850 per person.
The ship sails every week. The 4-day program (3 nights) departs Aswan on Fridays, while the 5-day program (4 nights) departs Luxor on Mondays. Since the tour is private, you’ll have your own guide and driver on shore instead of joining a coach group. The ship serves as your hotel between site visits.
Two sailing directions — pick your program and see the day-by-day plan.
Welcome to Aswan! Your adventure begins at Aswan Airport or train station, where our representative meets you and takes you to your private vehicle. Your Egyptologist guide then shows you the highlights of Aswan before you board the Jaz Regent.
We start at the Aswan High Dam, about 3.8 km long and 111 m high, built between 1960 and 1970. It controls the Nile's floods, supplies hydroelectric power and created Lake Nasser, and from the top you see the lake on one side and the river on the other.
Next we visit Philae Temple, the Temple of Isis, goddess of love and magic. The whole temple was dismantled and rebuilt on Agilkia Island in the 1970s to save it from the rising lake, and a short boat ride takes you to its island setting, one of the most beautiful in Egypt.
Our last stop is the Unfinished Obelisk in the ancient granite quarries, attributed to Queen Hatshepsut. At about 42 m it would have been the largest obelisk ever raised, but it cracked and was left in place, so you can see the tool marks and learn how the ancient Egyptians cut granite.
After the city tour you board the Jaz Regent, settle into your cabin and enjoy lunch on board, then dinner and a relaxing evening on the Nile.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Wake up to breakfast on board as the ship sails north to Kom Ombo. Our first visit is the Temple of Kom Ombo, which stands right on a bend of the Nile and is unusual because it is a double temple, shared by Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, a form of Horus. Look for the wall carvings of medical instruments and the Egyptian calendar, and for the mummified crocodiles in the small museum next door.
The cruise continues to Edfu, where lunch is served on board. The Temple of Edfu is dedicated to the falcon-headed god Horus. Built by the Ptolemies between 237 and 57 BC, it is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, with a 36 m entrance pylon, a columned court, a dark inner sanctuary and hieroglyphic reliefs that cover its walls.
In the afternoon you relax on the sundeck while the ship sails on to Luxor through the Esna Lock. In the evening there is a lively galabeya party and a dinner on board. You spend the night on the ship in Luxor.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast on board we start early, before the heat, with Luxor's West Bank. Our first stop is the Valley of the Kings, where the New Kingdom pharaohs were buried in rock-cut tombs. Your ticket covers three tombs and your guide recommends which to choose that day; the tomb of Tutankhamun costs extra.
Next is the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, a terraced temple built into the cliff for the most famous female pharaoh of the New Kingdom. We finish the West Bank at the Colossi of Memnon, two 18 m statues of Amenhotep III that once guarded his vanished temple.
After lunch on the ship we cross to the East Bank to visit Karnak and Luxor Temples. Karnak, dedicated to the god Amun, is the largest religious complex in Egypt, built over about 2,000 years, and its Great Hypostyle Hall holds 134 giant columns. A sphinx-lined avenue once linked it to Luxor Temple, which was built largely by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II and is especially beautiful at sunset.
You return to the ship for dinner with music and disco entertainment, and spend the night on the Nile in Luxor.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Enjoy a last breakfast on board before you say goodbye to the Nile and check out at 08:00 AM. Our representative takes you to Luxor Airport or Railway Station, or to your Luxor hotel if you are staying on. If your departure is later in the day, tell us when you book and we can add a stop, such as the Luxor Museum, before the transfer.

You then return to the ship for lunch. In the afternoon the Jaz Regent sails south and passes through the Esna Lock, where the river traffic queues, so it is a good time to watch daily life on the Nile from the sundeck. The ship moors for the night near Edfu, and dinner is served on board.
