Day 2: Amman Hotel - Umm Qais - Jerash - Amman Hotel

Morning time we drive two hours from Amman to Gadara, known as Umm Qais. The town belonged to the famous Decapolis, a union of 10 cities, founded by Alexander the Great. Several poets and philosophers lived here, and this is the place where the Biblical miracle of the Gadarene swine took place. In Umm Quais you see ruins of theatres and colonnaded streets and have an overwhelming view over the north Jordan Valley, the Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee. Best time to visit is spring when the surrounding hills are lush and green.

We continue then to Jerash, the best example of a Roman provincial city in the whole Middle East. The well preserved ruins had been hidden for centuries in sand, before the excavations started in 1925. Wander along the spectacular Forum, paved and colonnaded streets, the Nymphaeum, theatres and the Temple of Artemis.

Return transfer to your
hotel in Amman.

Day 3: Amman Hotel - As Salt - Amman City Tour - Amman Hotel

Head 30 minutes to the town of As Salt. In the old historic town see the 19th century architecture, houses with long arched windows. Walk along Hammam Street with its market and stroll along picturesque narrow streets. Or do the Salt Harmony Trail passing by heritage homes, mosques and churches, symbols that the people of Salt live together peacefully for centuries. Stop at nice viewpoints over the city; the Abu Jaber Mansion housing now the Historic Old Salt Museum is worth a visit. Back in Amman, explore more of the bustling capital of Jordan.

Though already mentioned in the Bible as Rabbat Ammon, the city is modern with only a few ancient attractions we visit today. Head downtown to explore the Citadel hill with remains from the Roman to the early Islamic period and a small Archaeological Museum.

Onto the opposite Roman Theatre from the 2nd century with 6,000 seats. From here stroll along the vibrant Souq with its different shops and stalls. We stop in Jabal Amman at Rainbow Street with its charm of early 20th century houses, cafés and restaurants.

Return to your hotel in Amman.

Day 4: Amman Hotel - Mt Nebo - Madaba - King’s Way - Kerak Castle - Petra Hotel

A tour of several hours along a scenic route lies ahead of you. Your driver takes you to Mt Nebo. From here overlook the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and parts of the Holy Land. According to the Bible this is the place where Moses was granted to see the Promised Land before he died and alleged to be his burial place. Short ride to Madaba, the town known in Jordan as the “City of Mosaic”. See the famous 6th century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land at St. George’s Church. Travel along the famous ancient caravan route of the King’s Way. Short photo stop in Wadi Al Mujib, a great wide valley with magnificent geological formation.

Then to the remains of the Crusader castle Kerak. Explore the underground passageways, enjoy the view and imagine how the forces of Salah ad-Din besieged this stronghold several times.

Afterwards, drive 2 hours to your hotel in Petra for check-in and a leisurely evening.

Day 5: Petra Hotel - Petra Visit - Wadi Rum Camp

Today visit Petra, the spectacular rose rock city, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Prepare yourself for walking over uneven terrain. Petra is the biggest attraction of Jordan and was first established around the 6th century B.C. by the Nabatean Arabs, a nomadic tribe who settled in the area and laid the foundation of a commercial empire that extended into Syria. Start with a walk to
canyon, the so-called Siq, at its end you see the most beautiful monument, the Treasury.

The building rises over 40 meters, and is carved into the sandstone like most of Petra’s architecture. Continue via the Street of Facades, passing by the Theatre to the Royal Tombs. From Petra the journey takes us 1.5 hours to Wadi Rum.

Check into your campsite, where dinner and the desert night with a hopefully starry sky awaits you.

Day 6: Wadi Rum 3 Hours Jeep Ride - Aqaba Hotel

Hop in a 4×4 and with your Bedouin driver uncover more of the vast Wadi Rum desert. The rugged landscape, the changing colours of sands and mountains, the serene atmosphere will make you understand why Wadi Rum is one of the most impressive desert landscapes in the world. The setting had been used for Hollywood movies.

You see canyons, red sand dunes, Nabatean rock inscriptions and a natural rock bridge formed over centuries. From here drive 45 minutes to Aqaba at the Red Sea. This is the only Jordan town with access to the sea and you spend here a leisurely afternoon at your hotel or explore Aqaba independently.
